Since the beginning of 2022, Vietcetera has undergone big changes and new transformations. As the number of readers grows, we pledge to create better, more insightful content — through articles, videos, podcasts, and events — that embody the progress of Vietnam. This also means we’re continuously welcoming new faces to the team, to help us in our mission.

This month, Dao Thu Phuong joins Vietcetera as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). With more than 17 years of experience in the fields of sales, technology, communications and digital transformation, as well as in building, managing and operating businesses, Phuong will be leading Vietcetera’s growth.

We talked to Thu Phuong to better understand her feelings and first impressions, as well as her plans ahead for Vietcetera.

The path that led her to Vietcetera

After having studied and lived in Ukraine, Phuong returned to Vietnam in 2005. At that time, she was working as branch director, responsible for the APAC region for a Ukraine company.

Having encountered some changes in her personal life and career orientation, she decided to take the job offer from Coc Coc in early 2012. At Coc Coc, Phuong had the opportunities to experience different positions in data assessment, marketing, building and developing business teams to product development as well as in general operations.

After nearly 10 years with Coc Coc, in October 2021, she was motivated to look for a more diverse role, to discover and develop her new sides. Phuong was led to a crypto company headquartered in Singapore with the distributed team. But because of geographical distance and time zone differences, the job wasn’t ideal for personal life.

Just as she decided to take a momentary break, Phuong received a job offer from Vietcetera.

Accepting a promising offer

Phuong found a lot of young people around her all know Vietcetera through reading articles and listening to podcasts.

"At first, I thought I wasn’t a good match for this audience. However, in such a constantly moving world, if I don't stay up to date, I sure wouldn’t be able to keep up with what the youth are doing now," Phuong said. That’s why she took some time to carefully consider the role offered to her.

Also, Phuong was very impressed with how well the leaders here understand and connect with each other, not only in work but also in daily communication. That harmonious teamwork of the management team persuaded her to believe that a bright future awaits the company.

"Vietcetera's users are young and eager to learn," Phuong added. "As long as we provide them with good content directly targeting those needs, there will be long-term engagement with users. It is also a key point for a digital media business (like Vietcetera) to thrive in the future."

A ‘bóc term’ fan

For the articles, Phuong said that she was most impressed with the series “Bóc term.”

“The way they explain trending words is fun and interesting. It gives me more insights into the word usage while broadening the discussion on issues that concern the young generation,” she shared.

When it comes to podcasts, her favorite shows are “Have A Sip” and “Vietnam Innovators.” She finds the topics, the guests, and how the host leads the conversation very persuading and informative.

Goals and visions

“For me, a business always needs to have two core goals. The first one is users. A business wouldn’t have any future without users. The second goal is revenue and profit. Those are the key factors that allow any company to provide its employees with good working conditions, a diverse corporate culture, and a stable salary. Only then could everyone feel at ease to work and contribute wholeheartedly.”

A company can only thrive when it lives on its own capabilities and internal resources. Therefore, Phuong hopes to be able to expand on users and grow the company further in terms of finance and human resources.

It’s just like how a house is built persistently in silence. From laying the firm foundation to building each wall, you may not see any immediate change every day but over time, the result would reveal itself — solid and complete.

What Phuong looks forward to the most is being able to contribute to Vietcetera’s success through hard work, persistence, and consistent efforts.
