You’ll never guess that there’s a restaurant and rooftop bar located in the middle of District 1’s last street market.
ANAN Saigon, a new Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of District 1’s beloved Cho Cu Old Market
Chef Peter Cuong Franklin (who famously started Chôm Chôm in Hong Kong) returns to his home country to introduce his Cuisine Mới or New Vietnamese Cuisine, at ANAN Saigon. This cuisine is about food that is new, yet has a history and story that uses traditional techniques and local ingredients. Our Vietcetera staff pick, the street-style Dalat pizza, is based on a regional dish from Peter’s home town in Dalat. The Dalat-style street pizza is made with local artisanal cheese, pork sausage products from an expert French charcutier based in Dalat, and is topped with a bouquet of local fresh herbs, a distinctive feature of Vietnamese gastronomy.
Why We Like It
It’s right in the middle of one of Ho Chi Minh City’s oldest street markets. From the rooftop, you can see the Old Saigon’s street market below and the New Saigon’s skyscrapers above. The ANAN Saigon experience includes the restaurant on the ground and first floor, an outdoor deck area with bia hoi and street food vibe, and a rooftop bar on the 6th floor with spectacular views of the Bitexco Financial Tower against the panoramic Saigon skyline. The design and branding was led by design agency, The Lab Saigon.
The small plates, like the Banh Xeo Taco and Dalat Style Pizzas, pair well with the signature cocktails. Some of the cocktails featured include the Spiced Phojito. It takes like pho, but without the aftertaste. And the Tra Da, a gin-infused black tea.
Tips for a Better Experience
Come on the earlier side for a chance to take in the full ANAN Saigon experience. With four different areas to the restaurant, you can easily spend the whole night here. Start at the rooftop for happy hour. There is a row of much-coveted bar stools on the rooftop overlooking the market. There’s also a cozy backside to the rooftop, perfect for dates or smaller groups. For a seat inside, go downstairs to the ground floor where you’ll get views of the action in the open kitchen.
