We spend around a third of our lives in bed. It’s a well-known and oft-touted fact. Yet something that’s not talked about enough is how important it is to really make an investment in the quality of our bed, and therefore the quality of our sleep.

After all, many of us invest in a good living space, vehicle, smartphone, computer, even the best clothing we can buy. So, why not invest in as optimal a night’s sleep as possible?

There are plenty of companies out there that create high-quality, considered beds and mattresses by researching what goes into the perfect slumber and developing superior products that fit.

One company that’s been at the coalface of the drive for top quality beds for well over a century is UK-based Vispring.

Since the company’s foundation in London in 1901 and subsequent move to the south coast town of Plymouth in 1971, Vispring has been making luxury beds that integrate technological innovation with handcrafted precision, care, and skill. A team of local craftsmen and women, a company with a vision for providing customers with the best night’s sleep possible, and an unyielding commitment to evaluation, quality control, and constant improvement – that’s what’s taken Vispring from an eager startup to one of the world’s most trusted bed makers.

How Vispring Has Made Sleeping Better

It all begins with the invention of the pocket sprung mattress – something which Vispring has championed since the company’s inception and uses in their divans as well as their mattresses. Most mattresses are traditionally made by the open coil method, which features a network of interlinked springs. However, pocket sprung products are made with hundreds of individual springs contained in their own pocket, allowing each to move much more independently of the other.

The result? A pocket sprung mattress is much more responsive to our weight, the contours of our body, and our sleeping position. They offer superior support and make for a much more comfortable, and ultimately healthier sleep. That Vispring is a recipient of both the Queen’s Award For Excellence as well as Bed Of The Year and the Bed Industry Awards speaks volumes for its quality.

While the technology that drives Vispring products has been around for over a century, it’s stood the test of time and has been periodically improved upon. So too has the filling which sets the company’s beds apart. Springs are only part of the story, the rest is in the quality of the mattress filling. Think blends of 100% British wool, horsehair, mohair, cashmere, and even sumptuous, and frankly, extremely rare vicuna wool, sourced from the Andes -dwelling animal that yields an average of only 0.5 kg of wool per year.

Luxury is the result of such fillings, but a single-minded goal of sourcing the ingredients for the perfect night’s sleep is the catalyst.

Better Beds For A Generation That Needs Better Sleep

Now more than ever, there’s a pressing need for us to begin taking ownership of how well we sleep. It’s been widely reported and analyzed that the millennial generation is having trouble sleeping, due in large part to work pressure and the ‘hustle culture’ that comes with it – the need to constantly be working and to be productive.

The knock-on effect of trying to be too productive though has been a rise in anxiety, stress, burnout, and sleeplessness. Ironically, all of these lead to a huge decrease in productivity and ultimately, in our health and wellbeing.

Perhaps if 2022 is to be the year that you get ahead, the best place to start could be from a great bed.
