After relatively silent Independence Day celebrations over the last two years because of the pandemic, Vietnam is now gearing up for grand festivities to mark an important event.

The skies of Ho Chi Minh City are set to see colorful hot air balloons on Friday. The balloons will be carrying an 1800-square-meter national flag into the sky above the Thu Thiem tunnel in Thu Duc City at 8:00 am on September 2.

According to Vo Trong Nam, deputy head of the Department of Culture and Sports, the hot air balloons will serve as a meaningful bearer of freedom and peace to aptly commemorate the event. He added that fireworks displays, which are usually done on Tet and Reunification Day, might be a dangerous option to celebrate this year’s Independence Day.

The southern metropolis is also hosting several water sports and paramotoring activities on both sides of the tunnel and at Bach Dang Wharf in District 1. The city will have multiple art shows in Thu Duc City, District 12, Binh Tan, Tan Phu, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Nha Be, and Can Gio on September 1st and 2nd. An exhibit is also on display at the Ho Chi Minh Monument Park from August 19th to September 4th.

On the evening of September 2nd, from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm, don’t forget to join in the festive spirit at Nguyen Hue Walking Street as there will be energetic art performances for all ages.

A little far away from the city center, Cu Chi District will also host a culture, cuisine, and tourism festival from September 1 through 4 at the Cu Chi cultural park.
