OnlyFans has become widely known for adult content, but it also hosts a wide range of material, from fitness coaching to lifestyle posts with independent creator subscriptions. That mix is part of what makes it controversial in countries with stricter rules around online content.

In Vietnam, the legal question is not just whether a website exists or can be accessed. The more important issue is whether the activity on it violates Vietnamese laws on obscene, pornographic, or other prohibited content.

A prison sentence of up to 15 years for distributing adult content

OnlyFans is not officially banned in Vietnam, at least not under any law that explicitly names the platform itself. However, adult content distributed through it may still fall under Article 326 of the Vietnamese Criminal Code, which criminalises the dissemination of pornography, obscenity, and other “depraved cultural content.”

According to Article 326, producing, copying, distributing, transporting, trading, or possessing pornographic or obscene content may result in fines, non-custodial reform, or imprisonment.

Specifically, distributing pornographic content of less than 5GB of data or to less than 20 people may result in fines ranging from VND 10-100 million (USD $380-3800), non-custodial reform for up to 3 years or imprisonment ranging from 6 months to 3 years.

Internet distribution, organised distribution, or possession involving data ranging from 5GB to under 10GB, or dissemination to between 21 and 100 people, may result in prison sentences of 3 to 10 years.

Meanwhile, content exceeding 100GB, or dissemination to more than 100 people, may carry prison sentences of between 7 and 15 years.

Foreigners are not exempt from this law. According to Article 326, foreigners are also equally fined, reformed or imprisoned if found possessing or distributing pornographic content, and may also face deportation from Vietnam.

Therefore, under the law, distributing or possessing adult content on OnlyFans may carry a minimum prison sentence of 3 years due to its online nature, and can extend to 7 to 15 years if the content is disseminated on a larger scale.

Is OnlyFans safe to use in Vietnam?

Technically, OnlyFans can still be accessed from Vietnam. However, it is frequently blocked or restricted by local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) due to regulations on adult content.

Beyond legal risks, public attitudes toward adult content in Vietnam remain largely conservative, and association with pornography can damage reputation, career prospects, and family relationships.

As a result, creators who use the platform may prefer anonymity or foreign-facing identities to reduce personal and social exposure. While OnlyFans is globally recognised, in Vietnam, it remains a niche platform.

Even so, individuals using OnlyFans — whether to upload or consume content — may still be vulnerable to legal risks under current regulations. The personal data collected on the platform, including identity information, bank accounts, and international payment details, is considered highly sensitive.

Starting January 1, 2026, Vietnam’s new personal data protection law will take effect, with social media platforms expected to face stricter requirements on user identification and verification, particularly regarding anonymous accounts and data protection.

In the end, OnlyFans exists in a grey zone: globally accessible, yet locally sensitive. The bigger question is not whether OnlyFans is safe to use in Vietnam, but whether anyone can safely admit that they are using it.
