How have the first few weeks back in the office been for you? Still unsure where to start or already snowed under with projects that are piling up? Whatever your office reality is, if you are anything like us, coffee probably features prominently. To up your coffee game a notch, Vietcetera is proud to announce our latest collaboration with building.coffee — a collection of five minimalist coffee jars bringing the finest Vietnam-grown coffee to your office.
Vietcetera was founded in 2016, around the same time as third-wave coffee started to take Vietnam by storm. Since then, we have had the opportunity to connect with many key players crafting a long-lasting, high quality coffee culture in the country.
For us at Vietcetera, riding the specialty coffee wave is less about diving into a novel concept than about our shared passion for quality coffee. A quick straw poll in the office reveals that up to 90% of the team need a cup of coffee every morning, with more than half needing a top up (or two) to make it through the day. On extremely busy days, there would still be a few coffeeholics sneaking into the pantry to knock back yet another espresso.
So when we were choosing a product to collaborate on, the inspiration came, as it often does, from our daily needs. It was at the end of last year when talking with coffee expert Will Frith (founder of building.coffee), who at that time was considering launching a coffee line, that the idea of the collab was born.
The concept stems from simplicity: purity, traditional flavor, easy to make in the office. We put this in our brief and Will responded with a blend of two acclaimed Vietnamese coffee varieties — Arabica Lam Dong and Robusta Gia Lai. The flavor profile is described as “brown sugar with woody notes and a light chocolate aftertaste”. It’s mildly acidic, with a rich but smooth taste, and is suitable for making in a phin.
When it came to designing the package, simplicity ruled here as well. Think of something you can draw in Word using only the paint tool, reality taking the time to create an ultra-streamlined form, not a line out of place, the overall design evoking a sense of closeness and sophistication. The final shape was born out of necessity for the jar to be relatively small (for optimal freshness) and reusable.
Now, the names we chose for the labels will give you a snapshot of what life is like at the Vietcetera office (and probably yours as well). That time when you were desperate to get a shut-eye but a deadline ruled out the afternoon nap? Or hours spent staring at a blank screen hoping inspiration would hurry up already? How about guzzling coffee by the gallon to wash away the bitter taste of a client’s feedback only to end up all jittery? Yep, we’ve all been there.
