Vietnam Guide, The Directory April 2019: Eat and Drink, and See
See what caught our editor’s eyes in April 2019’s edition of The Directory, a monthly column where we share what’s new and noteworthy.
April is no short of public holidays in Vietnam. Hung Kings’ Temple Festival Day and Reunification Day headline Vietnamese holidaymakers’ agendas this month. That gave us a bit more time to head out onto the town and see what’s new in Vietnam this month.
Do something new this month? Did we forget you? Drop us a note.
Where to eat & drink
GRAIN Cooking Studio, Ho Chi Minh
We admit, we’re a bit biased here. Vietcetera has just started a new partnership with GRAIN Cooking Studio to bring new programming and events to the space. We’ll also soon be using the space as a dedicated filming studio! Look out for new food videos from us soon.
Located on the 3rd level of the same building as Xu Bar on Hai Ba Trung, GRAIN has become a mainstay for visitors coming to Vietnam over the years. We hope to continue and grow this tradition.
Location: Floor 3, 71-75 Hai Ba Trung, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

Café Marcel, Ho Chi Minh
Café Marcel is the newest venue to open from the same team from Marcel Gourmet Burger. Here, they introduce a refreshing take on brunch in a city sorely lacking from brunch options. Who needs to head over to Thao Dien and District Two for a top brunch experience? Don’t miss the spicy shakshuka or their signature Croque-Marcel.
Location: 96 Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa, Quận 1, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh
Blank Lounge, Ho Chi Minh
Blank Lounge in Landmark 81 is the tallest lounge in Southeast Asia (just nearly missing out on the title of tallest venue in all of Southeast Asia). Featuring outdoor terraces, generous indoor space, and a view that few can match in Vietnam, Blank Lounge is sure to become a hit amongst visitors to Vietnam and those here that are looking to impress over business meetings or dates. We’re also a fan of their furniture selection, featuring signature pieces from the Vietnamese furniture brand District Eight.
Location: Floor 75 & 76, Landmark 81, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

About Life Coffee Brewers, Ho Chi Minh
About Life Coffee Brewers, hailing from the same team from Onibus Coffee of Shibuya, Tokyo, is marking its first location in Vietnam with a Pizza 4P’s partnership. Set on the ground floor of Pizza 4P’s Hai Ba Trung location, ALCB brings to Vietnam its well-respected drip coffee methods and Japanese style service. It’s sure to become a welcome hit in the speciality coffee scene here in Vietnam.

Where to shop
Ru9, Ho Chi Minh
A handful of our team members have purchased their own mattresses from Ru9 and the reviews are raving about the value and comfort. Stop by their newly renovated showroom and office in District Two in Thao Dien for an in-person sampling of their products.
Location: 7 Nguyen U Di, Thao Dien, Quan 2, Ho Chi Minh City.
Nosbyn Studio, Ho Chi Minh
Nosbyn Studio is the freshest business idea from fashion entrepreneur Nancy Le. In her own words, Nosbyn Studio is a contemporary brand that carries a vision to bring modern clothing pieces to all women. Nosbyn Studio has found a place in the market specializing in more premium limited edition products, whereas the original Nosbyn continues to focus on the simple, everyday casual garments for women.
Location: 77 Mac Thi Buoi, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
