Here, the 2024 intern class shares why we chose Vietcetera to enrich our skills, what surprises us during our time, and little peeks into our personalities.

Whether it is 8 p.m. (PDT) or 9:30 a.m. (GMT+7), the 2024 intern class has been devoting their time, creativity, and energy to this first quarter of the year to contribute our unique interests to the Vietnamese media field. Continuing the legacy of the older classes, we have been exploring the multidisciplinary Vietcetera through audio & visual, social media, research, and editorial.

What drew you to Vietcetera?

Since 2020, I have been following Vietcetera and listening to every new episode of Have A Sip and, occasionally, Vietnam Innovators. As a media communication student, I am fascinated with how Vietcetera creates content. Putting down the critics, each show and podcast has its uniqueness that I find describable but simply mesmerizing. But I think it’s the company’s mission that resonates with me the most, pushing me to seize any opportunities given to work here.

What is the field of your interest?

Anything to do with communication (from audio-visual production, social media marketing to market research)

Sitting in the office 8 hours a day! My back pain is killing me :<

What was the biggest surprise when you joined Vietcetera?

I was surprised by how playful and energetic the Business team is after work hours. My first impression of them was serious and quiet, but I was wrong :D

If you could take over Vietcetera for a day, what would you do?

Buying a new HotPot kit and setting mandatory “HotPot for Friday Lunch” for team building (meals paid by the company)

What drew you to Vietcetera?

Vietcetera drew me to Vietcetera (literally). The whole idea of Vietcetera, what it does, and what it brings to the Vietnamese diaspora all around the world made me fall in love with the company and also helped a lot with all the homesickness from being overseas. From watching all the TikTok and YouTube videos about Vietcetera as a workplace, I see that it also seems like a seriously fun place to work.

What is the field of your interest?

Audio & Visual, Media & Communication, and pretty much anything to do with a camera

HAS podcast (pun intended)

What is your biggest “work ick?”

Getting hungry during office hours, the studio’s water cooler only has a hot and hotter setting, and the AC being boiling or artic cold (there’s no in-between)

What was the biggest surprise when you joined Vietcetera?

How everyone is so chill with meeting famous people but also getting to contribute so much toward what Vietcetera does (I thought interns would just make coffee and photocopy documents)

If you could take over Vietcetera for a day, what would you do?

New office chair (with proper cushion) for everyone and a new pantry with cô Rí in charge. Maybe change the company’s logo to my face just because I can.

What drew you to Vietcetera?

I came across Vietcetera’s podcast, Have A Sip, Yeu Lanh and Gen Z Truyen a while ago, when I was trying to improve my personal well-being, and thought to myself that I want to contribute my voice to this publication as it healed me so well.

What is the field of your interest?

I fell in love with writing recently as I discovered myself lost in the magical forest of words. Combining my passion for the Gender and Sexuality studies field, I use my voice to advocate as a young Vietnamese woman navigating through the world of questions.

Static by Steve Lacy, Show Me How by Men I Trust, and Falling Behind by Laufey. I have somewhat of a bizarre taste in music, but I need every genre to be ready for an epic mood change!

What is your biggest “work ick?”

I have to change my position every 3 minutes because of my backache. I hate working when the only facility option allows me to sit only because I also work while standing up.

What was the biggest surprise when you joined Vietcetera?

Everyone uses Gen-Z lingo/slang, like “bestie how?” And I thought Pyjamas Day was only a high school thing? At Vietcetera, the friendliness doesn’t surprise me anymore, but everyone’s dynamic and refreshing vibe is immaculate. So, as a young intern, I feel heard and seen.

If you could take over Vietcetera for a day, what would you do?

I would eat everything on the menu at Petit. They sound so good, but I wasn’t able to try them because Apple has not dropped Apple Teleport yet.

What drew you to Vietcetera?

In high school, I was inspired by Vietcetera’s M.A.D podcast, where hosts and guest speakers discussed various topics in the creative industry. Consequently, when Vietcetera posted a recruitment notice, I didn’t hesitate to apply.

What is the field of your interest?

I’m currently majoring in Professional Communication, a field that fits my passion for creativity and wordplay. I perceive communication as more than mere advertising or promotion. It plays a crucial role in shaping culture, ideologies, and social values.

Save Your Tears by The Weeknd! Someone said this song sounds like the type that would be played at an 80s high school prom, and I couldn’t agree more!

What is your biggest “work ick?”

When employees are subjected to harsh words, it can be discouraging. While it’s common to address employees’ mistakes, it becomes problematic if it occurs too frequently. As a team leader on various projects, I always use encouraging language when pointing out the team’s shortcomings. This is one reason why I find the environment at Vietcetera suitable, as communication is consistently clear and positive.

What was the biggest surprise when you joined Vietcetera?

The emoticons on Slack have to be the best! I had a good laugh browsing through numerous meme emoticons of Vietcetera members, which are used to react to messages and within the messages themselves.

If you could take over Vietcetera for a day, what would you do?

This might sound silly, but I want to host a free bubble tea party for everyone so we won’t have to gather orders after lunch.
