“If Vietcetera were a friend of yours, what would that person look like?”
In 2019, when we asked our readers the question above, the common answer we got was: A man in his 40s, modern, knowledgeable, and experienced! That answer somehow reflected the content orientation we pursued at that time.
As time passed, Vietcetera has also grown a lot. We are now a team of more than 100 creative people, working hard every day to deliver high-quality content to Vietnamese people at home and abroad, and staying true to our mission of "Bringing Vietnam to the world, bringing the world to Vietnam.”
Along our five-year journey, we have experimented and figured out countless ways and means to accomplish this mission. And as Vietcetera changed, we know that our readers' perception of us also did.
In June this year, we asked our audience again: “If Vietcetera were a friend of yours, what would that person look like?” There were nearly 1,000 different answers sent to us! Going through all the answers was delightful as it was inspiring.
Some said Vietcetera is a smart, fun, stylish, and weird girl; some even gave more vivid details, picturing Vietcetera as a coffee-lover gentleman who wears glasses and always has a laptop or a pen in his company. But, the most common theme of what Vietcetera looked like for the readers is this: A young, friendly, creative, well-informed, and experienced friend who has tons of new interesting stories in stock to tell every day. And we couldn’t agree more.
This survey gave us fascinating insights into various versions of Vietcetera. These insights also sowed the seeds of our new project "Hi Hoay by Vietcetera" — a set of designs inspired by our readers’ imagination and brought alive by 12 talented illustrators.
Who's behind ‘Hi Hoay’?
In the dictionary, “hi hoay” means the act of working diligently, often for a task that requires meticulous care.
At a content agency like Vietcetera, "hi hoay" can be seen anywhere, from the editorial team, designers and illustrators, to the podcast-video production team, the events team and so on.
The most special thing about “Hi Hoay” is the participation of 12 Vietnamese illustrators. You may find some of them familiar as they have already been featured in the series Nhìn Phát Yêu Luôn, while the rest are Vietcetera’s in-house illustrators whose artworks are an integral part of our every article.
What is in ‘Hi Hoay’?
Out of about 1,000 answers submitted, we selected 12 descriptions of Vietcetera as "concepts" for illustrations.
Some concepts suit the artists’ personalities very well, while some can be a handful since they are abstract, or feature many contrasting personalities in one figure. But either way, the 12 artists have successfully finished their designs in time for the Vietcetera team to fully develop the products.
Now, after five months of effort with numerous challenges posed by the pandemic, we are proud to introduce to our beloved readers the ‘Hi Hoay by Vietcetera’ collection with four main products – desk calendars, postcards, lucky money envelopes and stickers, all featuring 12 works of art by 12 incredibly talented illustrators. The prices range from 600,000 VND for a combination box set off all four products to 89,000 VND for the stickers.
Through this collection, Vietcetera expresses our appreciation and gratefulness to the readers who have been accompanying us for the past several years and, also, to celebrate the new year. We’ve been through so many ups and downs together, so here’s to hope and happiness for the coming year.
