World Travel Awards 2022: Vietnam Is Shortlisted In 10 Categories
Ever since Vietnam reopened its borders to international visitors on March 15, the volume of international searches for Vietnam’s tourism has surged by 50-70%, the fourth-highest increase in the world, according to Google’s market trend tracker tool.
Data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) revealed that after the reopening, Vietnam had maintained a high growth rate in terms of tourist arrivals, proving the country’s tourism industry is on its way to full recovery.
Per the same information, a large volume of searches come from the US, Japan, India, Singapore, Germany, France, Thailand, Canada, and the UK. And the destinations they’re eyeing are the cities of Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Da Nang, as well as tourist destinations like Phu Quoc, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Hue, and Quy Nhon.
After the reopening, “Visit Vietnam Year 2022” was launched with an opening ceremony in Quang Nam, famous for Hoi An. Up to 300 cultural and tourism events will be organized throughout the year, including 64 hosted by Quang Nam following the theme “Quang Nam - Green tourism destination.”
Like every other country, Vietnam’s tourism has endured a gloomy year due to the global pandemic. But it’s set to bounce back sooner than expected. The country’s nomination in various categories at this year’s World Travel Awards just shows Vietnam is ready to welcome back tourists from different parts of the world.
World Travel Awards, dubbed the “travel industry’s equivalent of the Oscars,” celebrates excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries, recently announced nominees for this year’s program. And Vietnam is shortlisted in 10 categories.
Vietnam is nominated for awards in the Asian region for Leading Destination, Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination, Leading Heritage Destination, Leading Cultural Destination, Leading Nature Destination, Leading Youth Travel Destination, and Leading Beach Destination.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is running for Asia's Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination award.
Hanoi was also shortlisted as Asia’s Leading City Break Destination and Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination.
In addition to country awards, many Vietnamese brands, such as Sun Group, VinGroup, Vietnam Airlines, or Mường Thanh, compete in other categories.

Last year, Vietnam received four country awards for Asia’s Leading Destination, Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination, Leading Tourism Board, and Leading Cultural City Destination for Hoi An. Previously, Vietnam has been chosen three times as Asia's Leading Destination and finished in high ranks in heritage, cultural and sustainable tourism categories from 2018 to 2021.
