One of the most emerging lifestyle brands to emerge in the hospitality scene in recent years, is a Hong Kong based brand called EAST. We covered it back in March, though we’re doing a round two given a few changes.

Firstly, a rebrand of EAST that is positioning it to be firmly in the more affluent lifestyle segment. Secondly, Hong Kong International Airport recently added a third runway, increasing its capacity and surely enabling more flights throughout the region, including Vietnam which recently celebrated its 75th year of connectivity with flagship carrier Cathay Pacific.

And thirdly, with the easing of visa requirements for Vietnamese, Hong Kong which has historically been an elusive destination for Vietnamese tourists, can expect a boom in the near future.

, part of Swire Hotels, is undergoing an exciting rebranding effort as it aims to build a competitive platform in the growing upper-middle lifestyle hotel segment. This new identity reflects the brand’s commitment to blending understated luxury with community-driven experiences, making EAST more than just a place to stay—it’s a destination that connects people and ideas.

A Vibrant Hub At Domain Coffee Shop

At the heart of EAST Hong Kong’s reimagined experience is , a community-driven co-working and social hub. Unlike the often-insular nature of hotel cafés, Domain is designed to bring people together, creating a lively space where local business professionals, students, and families mingle with hotel guests.

The generous seating and inviting atmosphere make Domain an ideal spot for casual meetings, remote work, or simply enjoying coffee and pastries. This integration of the local community sets EAST apart from other lifestyle hotels, offering an authentic connection to the vibrant energy of Hong Kong.

Rooms That Elevate Comfort And Style

The rooms at EAST reflect the brand’s new direction, delivering an experience that feels luxurious without being overly indulgent. My harbor bay view room was a highlight of the stay, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that framed breathtaking views of the iconic Hong Kong skyline and harbor.

The design strikes a balance between modern aesthetics and practical comfort. Rooms are spacious and impeccably clean, with thoughtful touches like high-quality linens, well-placed lighting, and functional layouts. These details create a relaxing environment that feels more akin to a boutique luxury hotel than an upper-middle-tier property.

Exceptional Value And Competitive Positioning

EAST Hong Kong’s rebranding is also about redefining value in this competitive segment. Compared to pricier hotels in Central, EAST offers larger rooms, premium amenities, and a high standard of service at a much more accessible price point.

This strategic positioning allows EAST to attract a diverse range of travelers, from business professionals seeking convenience to families looking for comfort without sacrificing style. The brand’s focus on understated elegance ensures that the experience feels refined yet welcoming, steering clear of the over-the-top “trendiness” that can sometimes define lifestyle hotels.

Art And Aesthetics: Subtle But Striking

Another element of EAST’s rebranding is its incorporation of art and aesthetics. Throughout the hotel, curated artwork and modern design elements add character to the spaces without overwhelming them. This subtle infusion of creativity reflects EAST’s philosophy of offering a polished experience that feels natural and unpretentious.

Hong Kong International Airport’s Third Runway: A Game-Changer

During my visit, I had the opportunity to tour Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) new third runway, part of the Three-Runway System (3RS). This state-of-the-art addition positions HKIA to handle increasing passenger and cargo demand, reinforcing its status as one of the world’s busiest and most advanced aviation hubs.

The runway’s advanced infrastructure, streamlined passenger processing, and improved air traffic control systems are designed to enhance efficiency and connectivity. For travelers, this means shorter wait times and smoother connections, making Hong Kong even more accessible to visitors from around the world. I suspect connectivity for travelers and optimal timetables to be beneficial for those going to and from Vietnam via Hong Kong soon.

New Visa Policies For Vietnamese Travelers

Another significant development is the implementation of new visa policies for Vietnamese citizens, making it easier than ever for Vietnamese travelers to visit Hong Kong. These updated policies are expected to encourage greater cross-border tourism, fostering cultural exchange and economic ties between the two regions.

Hong Kong’s allure as a destination is undeniable, with its mix of modern urban landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and world-class dining. With these visa changes, Vietnamese travelers have a seamless path to explore the city, while Hong Kong has a unique opportunity to tap into Vietnam’s growing outbound tourism market.

Opportunities For Vietnam-Hong Kong Tourism Growth

The combination of easier access for Vietnamese travelers and the increased capacity at HKIA creates a perfect storm for tourism growth. Vietnam’s burgeoning middle class and its youthful, travel-savvy population represent a significant market for Hong Kong’s tourism sector.

Conversely, Hong Kong residents are increasingly drawn to Vietnam’s diverse offerings, from its bustling cities to serene natural landscapes. Enhanced connectivity and direct flights could further fuel this mutual interest, unlocking new opportunities for both regions.
